What size wings should I order for my horse or pony?

Wing size is a matter of personal taste. To decide whether a specific wing length will suit your horse, hold one end of a yardstick or measuring tape to the shoulder and measure away from the horse to see how far the wing will extend. Keep in mind that while large wings look impressive on a mini or small pony, mini sized wings can appear stunted on a large horse. If you are inclined to choose undersized wings, we recommend going with dragon wings which can look cute when slightly undersized.

Can wings be used around kids or for pony parties?

Yes. Our fairy and dragon wings are made of flexible material that will bend if it hits someone, so they are perfectly safe to use around kids or in public places. There must always be an experienced adult present to make sure your wings do not snag on things, which could damage the wings or frighten the pony. Please make sure your pony has time to get used to the wings and is not likely to spook before using around children.

How do I put these wings on my horse or pony?

Wishpony.com wings are made to attach to either a saddle or surcingle and will work with English, western, and Australian saddles.

Is the girth and saddle pad in the product photo included with the wings?

No, you will need to have your own saddle pad and tack to use these wings correctly. If using wings for photography, we highly recommend getting a surcingle from a conventional tack shop in a color similar to your horse’s coat.

Can the custom pads for surcingles be used for riding?

The custom padding is for use in photography or events where your horse will be led rather than ridden. The pads are removable so you can simply take them off and use a regular saddle pad if you wish to ride your horse with wings.

Why do the color of the wings look darker or lighter in different photos?

Our fairy and dragon wings are made of metallic, iridescent, and translucent materials that can look different in varying light conditions. Wing color will typically look darker indoors and lighter in sunlight. How they look in photos will depend on whether light is reflecting off the wings or shining through them from behind.

Can wings be used on foals?

We don’t recommend using wings made for adult horses on foals because they are meant to be used with traditional tack such as saddles and surcingles. If you would like to put wings on a foal, we may be able to make custom wings containing only soft materials that are safe and comfortable for a foal to wear. Please contact us by email if you wish to have custom baby wings made for you. We will need to know the girth size, height, color, and breed of your foal to give you a custom quote.
