Darling Steed is a series of barding and faux armor designed especially for ponies and miniature horses (though we make larger sizes available for those who desire it). Here we have lightweight barding inspired by Medieval artworks and Victorian Era carousel horses, which are suitable for princesses, knights and circus themed events.
All our Darling steed products are compatible with our other barding, unicorn horns, and wings for horses so you can mix and match to achieve your ideal ensemble.
Made of soft, lustrous Panne velvet and trimmed with a lightweight brush fringe, this set is available in a wide array and combination of colors.
The Scalloped Barding features a convex semi-circle patterned edge.
This set includes:
- Browband -- V-shape browband trimmed with brush fringe with optional ostrich plume(s).
OR
Chamfron -- Face covering in matching color. Optional gold or silver criss-cross lacing and optional ostrich plume(s).
- Rein Covers -- Scalloped rein barding with a channel for sliding your reins through.

| Measuring Guide |
Browband: Measure across your horse's forehead from the lower edges of the crownpiece. Or measure a browband that fits your horse from the ends of the loops.
Chamfron:
- Browband Length: Entire length of browband including loops.
- cross Top of Noseband: Distance across horse's nose (where the noseband sits) to and from the lower edge of each cheekpiece.
- Browband to Noseband: Length of face from the top edge of browband to the lower edge of noseband.
- Distance Between Eyes: The width of the horse's forehead between the inner corners of eyes. This is to make sure the costume does not obscure the horse's vision, not the actual size of finished piece.
Rein Covers: Measure from the bit down the length of the rein. For safety reasons, please select a length that will not cover any part of reins gripped by hands.
Breastplate: The chest barding can be worn one of two ways. Please measure according to the style you desire.
- For Slanted Chest Barding: Measure from center of chest to D-ring at the front of the saddle.
- For Straight-Across-the-Chest: Measure from center of chest to billets or girth.
Rump Breeching: The rump breeching can be worn one of two ways. Please measure according to the style you desire.
- For Over-the-Rump Breeching, measure from center of rump just before the tail to the girth.
- If wearing under the tail, measure from under the tail to the D-rings on the back of your saddle.
